Life and movement - Special 3-day workshop focusing on the Movement and life in paintings.
- august 5-7, 2025 -

Life and movement!

Life happens in motion and I like to think that paintings with motion come alive as well… But how does one capture life and motion. Well, it is my opinion that to paint motion is really an exercise on edges and brush work. If you wave your hand in front of your face quickly, or witness and bird fly by, you’ll notice that there are hardly any hard edges. Every edge is soft, but not only soft, they are softened in an interesting way that creates the illusion of motion.

we will explore the effects of soft edges and dynamic brushwork.

In addition to a variety of interesting soft edges within a painting, another aspect of a painting with the feeling of movement is the use of dynamic brushwork. There are hundreds of ways to lay paint onto a canvas, and we will explore them all!… well, at least as many as we can think of, in order to move the eye across the canvas in an interesting way. But there is a little more to it than that. I don’t think its just about pushing wild strokes around the canvas in all the ways imaginable…. wouldn’t that be fun?… No, I believe it really comes down to using our instinct and mood as an artist and more importantly, listening to our canvases, in order to discover what THAT particular painting needs in order to tell its unique story.

Bonus Dinner and Flamenco dancing.

To further study life and movement, and get a little blood flowing in our veins, all students will join me for a lively evening to witness some of Barcelonas best flamenco dancing and a group dinner.

LOCATION:

The workshop will take place in the beautiful Museum of modern art in the heart of old town barcelona.

Address

Barra de Ferro, 5
08003 BARCELONA

Housing some of the most beautiful figurative art in the world, the MEAM museum is a living collection in permanent movement.

After several years of reform work, in 2011 the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art) was opened in the building of the old Gomis Palace, in Carrer Barra de Ferro 5, just a few metres from the Picasso Museum, in the most commercial and touristy point of Barcelona.

It is an old palace that was totally rebuilt in 1792 by the well-off textile merchant Gomis, at a time when Carrer Montcada was the most noble thoroughfare of the city. During the Napoleonic invasion, Marshal Lecchi, who commanded the French troops, turned this building into his regular residence.
